  • Kansas City: A Major Destination?
The answer to this question is still evolving, but Kansas City is making some waves on the travel scene.  One interesting article discusses the seven new major sites that are set to open this year, including the nation’s only WWI museum, the new Bloch Building at the Nelson-Atkins, the Sprint Center, and the College Basketball Experience at the Sprint Center.  Having lived in the area for over ten years now, I have to say that there is a buzz floating around about these additions to the area and about some of the proposed additions as well.  While I doubt that Kansas City is high on the average person’s radar (it probably wouldn’t be at the top of my list if I didn’t live here), that could begin to change with some of these new sites.  Kansas City is, particularly with these new offerings, bringing some unique attractions to the table that can’t be found elsewhere.  Will it cause a major shift in tourist visits?  Only time will tell, but the city does seem to be on the right track.    Related EntriesAirfare Specials 4/6/07 Rainy Day Ideas New Flights To/From KC Traveling Back in Time at the Patee House Royals Home Opener

To all the chocoholics out there: you do not want to miss the chocolate sack at McCormick and Schmick’s Seafood Restaurant in Kansas City.   Created in the shape of a small bag, this bittersweet chocolate is filled with heavy whipped cream and topped with fresh strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries.  This is the dessert that all little sundaes dream of growing up to be. • New Flights To/From KC
ExpressJet began service from KCI on Tuesday, offering nonstop flights to Los Angeles and Tuscon.  Austin, Jacksonville, Fla., Louisville, New Orleans, and Raleigh/Durham will be added as additional stops this spring and summer.  The frequent flier program seems to be very similar to Southwest’s with participants earning a free flight after 8 round trip flights or 16 one-way trips.  The airline offers 100 channels of free XM(R) Satellite Radio, complimentary, recognized name-brand snacks with full-service meal options on longer flights, and redesigned, memory foam leather seating. • Free Audiobooks in KC
Looking for free audiobooks?  Many of the libraries in and around KC now have downloadable audiobooks through either Netlibrary or Overdrive.  The systems work much like a regular library: you “check” out a book for a period of time.  Once that time is over, the audiobook file will no longer work unless you download it again (i.e. (...)

  • Royals Home Opener
The Kansas City Royals opened their season at home with a 7-1 win over the Boston Red Sox.  There’s been quite a bit more excitement over the team this year around town in comparison to past years, particularly with the great younger players they have and some new signings for the mound. (...)
