    Gov. Rick Perry named Allan B. Polunsky of San Antonio as chairman of the Public Safety Commission. He also appointed Carin Barth of Houston and Tom Clowe of Waco as members. The commission is responsible for formulating and overseeing policies for the Texas Department of Public Safety, the state's chief law enforcement agency.

  • DPS searching for hit-and-run vehicle
    DPS is asking for the public's assistance in solving a hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a 16-year old Travis County boy. John Paul Rodriguez of Cedar Creek was stuck and killed by a vehicle early Sunday morning as he walked westbound along the 1200 block of FM 812 in east Travis County. He was found at 10 a.m. by bicyclists. Witnesses report he had been seen along the roadway around 2 a.m. Sunday morning. He reportedly had been visiting friend in the area.
