    Stephen H. Hess has been named the new Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the University of Utah and will report directly to the president. Hess is currently Associate Academic Vice President for Information Technology. This change will help streamline the data processing needs of faculty, staff, and students in areas such as research, financial management, and planning.

    A new task force has been created by University of Utah President Michael K. Young to respond to security concerns in light of legislative response to the University's policies regarding guns on campus and recent events of violence on university campuses.     Free Family Monday at the Utah Museum of Natural History at the University of Utah has families in constant motion….bouncing balls off walls, launching small rockets, flying mini-helicopters and more as they learn about the physics of our world.  This new program is a partnership with the U of U's Physics Department and is brought to the community through the Salt Lake County's Zoo, Arts & Parks (ZAP) program.

  • U of U Invites Nominations for Annual Veterans Day Commemoration Program
    The University of Utah will host its tenth annual Veterans Day Commemoration Program on Friday, November 9, 2007 to honor Utah veterans who have served our country in military service. Veterans Day is usually observed each year on November 11, however because that date falls on a Sunday this year, the University will hold its program to honor veterans on the Friday before. Again this year, the U is inviting members of the Utah community to submit nominations for honorees.

  • U OF U HONORS STUDENTS TO RELEASE UTAH IMMIGRATION GUIDE
    "Immigration in Context: A Resource Guide for Utah," will be distributed to educators, lawmakers, leaders and community members Tuesday May 15. The guide, developed by members of the Honors Think Tank on Immigration, studies the complex issues surrounding the debate over immigration and contains historical, legal, economic, media literacy, and other pertinent information, as well as personal observations from immigrants and members of the think tank.

    Mary C. Beckerle, professor of biology and executive director of Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah, was honored at today's University commencement ceremonies with the Rosenblatt Prize for Excellence, the U's most prestigious award. The $40,000 gift is presented annually to a faculty member who displays excellence in teaching, research and administrative efforts.
