  • Oil and the world

Oil is the modern world's most needed resource. It is a resource created by nature over several millenniums and one that will be most probably be squandered away by humanity in less than a century. It is a resource that has dictated modern international diplomacy and politics, a resource now on the verge of extinction. I think it is time to look back at the way we have manifested this resource, how political games have been played and wars been fought under the cover of a philanthropic cause. Oil has been, till now, the driving force behind our industries. It has fulfilled human energy needs for several decades. In fact, several economic models measure a country's growth and economy by the amount of oil it consumes. From automobiles to kitchen gas to industrial usage, it wouldnt be wrong to say that oil as a source of energy has some influence on all our lives. So I cant understand why doesnt anybody today ask the question "What after Oil ?" Is it such a difficult global scenario to analyse or is it simply that we want to be like an ostrich, wishing the problem would simply go away. Instead of planning for a future for the coming generations, we have focussed our attention on gaining maximum control of the resource and passing the problem to the have not's. The problem is not mine or yours, but is something that will effect everybody, the whole mankind. This is an eventuality no one can deny and the solution can only be reached together. Consider this, the proposed American budget for the Iraq war was $70-80 billion, but so far has cost $290 billion with Mr Bush always keen on asking the congress for additional funds. $290 billion, thats almost equivalent to the entire value of Microsoft. Had even a fraction of the above funds been diverted to research regarding improving efficiency of energy generation, improvements in harnessing alternate sources of energy and funding fusion research programmes, the solution to our energy problems would have been with us and there for our future generations. Instead, let us see how the problem has actually been handled. It has been clear from events of the past few decades, that the foresight of the American leaders foretold the coming shortage and eventual exctinction of oil. It is indeed commendable that while the entire world was involved in developing their economies, solving regional disputes, maybe even a war or two, the largest global economy was cleverly, posing as a philanthropist, securing oil rights in the middle east through their oil companies through diplomatic and military means. US has always backed Israel, the regional superpower in the Gulf. Besides there were the Gulf Wars to gain dominance in Iraq and a direct strong hold in the region. Also through NATO, America has always enjoyed an upper hand in the region with its military bases and troops. The American Oil companies are extremely dominant in the middle east and american military presence there ensures safety of american investment in Saudi Arabia. And all this has been achieved after several decades of calculated political maneuvering and capitalising on every oppurtunity that comes their way. What troubles me though is the fact, that where ever the quest for oil has taken the US, there has been nothing but suffering and bloodshed for both the americans and the natives. The defenders of the world have not been true to their self appointed job. And the American people have been blatantly ignorant of their leader's lies and the media has been superficial, even biased at times in their coverage of these historic conflicts. Instead of acting as a responsible superpower, the country has ended up creating a mess. The war on Iraq has crossed over its allocated budget, with no repreive in sight. War on terror is a total disaster, with resentment to american presence in the region gaining momentum and american troops being targeted everywhere. Also the so called, elected governments established by the americans are weak and unstable. People are paying with their lives so American capitalists can reap the fruit. Meanwhile, the American economy is in a terrible state, with the inflation and the trade deficit touching new heights. With rising interest rates, mortgage and home finance, which has been the american golden goose, is now heading for a decline. The government has failed to create jobs in the economy with multinationals outsourcing to upcoming countries like China and India to increase their profit margins. Clearly the americans have not taken into consideration the consequences of globalisation and the increasing interdependence of the American and upcoming economies as consumer and producer. Hence, eventually the solution lies only in cooperation and mutual co existance and that will eventually be the key to the survival of our civilisation. However, in the current scenario, I see no end to this senseless quest fuelled by arrogance and lack of respect for human life. What is going to be the outcome of this whole chrade. Once this resource is finished, once the wars over controlling oil have been fought, once several million lives have been lost, we will be back where we were at the turn of the 19th. But by then it would be too late and it would all be over. What then??

  • Indian team and "sport" ive politics

Team India - they lose 20 matches and then they win 3 matches in a bang making the fans happy. Then to make fans forget their losses, they come up with controversy between coach and a player or a match fixing sandal in the worst case. They have players in the team who never play well. They have player who fail 20 times and succeed in 21st time when he is about to get out of team. And that player wont be thrown out for 100 matches.I don't understand what criteria the team management follows in selecting the people. They cant select the 11 people who can win the world cup for India out of 100 crore guys. But one thing is for sure,There is lot of politics involved in the team.Everyone in the board wants to have their associated player enter the international arena. The president of the board normally looks like the big player of this game.Earlier it was dalmiya who always backed ganguly and now its the turn of powar who backs Mumbai players.Apart from this there are lot of players in the team who are in because of their seniority even if they dont play well.Take case of Tendulkar,he is totally out of form and even if he makes runs sometime he cant play with the josh he used to have earlier. But still the team management keeps him because he is the senior. There is lot of talent in the domestic cricket which is waiting for a single chance and you making these old players play for generations.Ain't it nuts???Stop playing with the reputation of the country for your selfneeds and select a team that can get the next worldcup some how.

Yahoo YPN - Right now its looking to be the best competitor to the adsense. If you are located in the US, this is probably the best alternative to Adsense. Yahoo Panama is launching on February 5th.You can join it once it goes public

FeedBurner Ads - Feedburner has got FAN for displaying ads in the feed now and it is performing well as per the publishers. The ads are CPM in nature and they have decent reporting engine.

Text Link Ads, Adbrite - If you want to take a complete control of the ads in your website from format to pricing to positioning, this is the right place. You can sell text links on your blog pages using any of these programs. They also let you add advertising in your RSS feeds.

BIDVERTISER - One of the best alternatives, gives you complete control of the bids unlike adsense. The only problems is you can have only one format of ad for the entire webpage as same code is given for all formats. But payout is quite good with range to almost 2$ a day.

  • Ibibo - Great Indian idle people hunt

Ibibo.com has started a competition for the Indian bloggers under the name great Indian blogger hunt and they also set some prizes worth 1.5 crore. But I didn't understand to whom they really want to give the prize to.Initially when the competition is started ,I also joined thinking it will be fair. But in the end i found it merely a waste of time. There is nothing out there for a real blogger. It is just meant to cash the people who would love to waste their time sitting all the day creating new posts in Ibibo. They will give you rank on the basis of page impressions, comments, ratings by other users and posts. But the crap out there is your rating decreases considerably when some one rates you low but it wont increase with your ratings. They not even trace your ip.you can maintain two to three accounts easily rating yourself, writing comments. Most of the people do the same thing for getting comments as no one loves to see these blogs. All the things mentioned above can be done only by idle people only.Im pasting the top 5 blogs title, once you read them you can understand the quality of the competition out there.
rank 1 Mallika Sherawat - in the boldest clothes ever - Only for 18+
    rank2
Bollywood videos pictures wallpapers desi babes
    rank3
    Pictures Worth Thousands of Words
    rank4 All About All
    rank5
    . : M u s i n g s : .
Most of the content of the blogs is nothing except copying content from wikipedia,google.....and other sites. And you can find people to such a extent that they spend most of their day creating 200-300 posts.Normally after getting some score, you get 250 points a day.In almost one month the top scorer has
2823564.caluculate how many posts he might be doing all the day.Blogging is not junk.If you want to conduct some competition ,you should atleast come up with some policies that might get the best out of competitors. If you find yourself a really idle person,Go and join the hunt.

  • Google feels it can't maintain youtube

Video hosting services are going to have a setback after some internet companies declared on Wednesday that they don't feel better investing this much heavily to keep the data flowing.Google which acquired online video sharing site youtube last year, said the internet was not designed for TV.It even issued a warning to the companies who think they can start distributing mainstream TV shows and movies on a global scale at broadcast quality over the Internet. The web infrastructure and even Google's cant scale.Google instead offered to work together with cable operators to combine its technology for searching for video and TV footage and its tailored advertising with the cable networks.high quality delivery of shows. The data involved in one hour can scale to one year's worth of emails. Most of traffic on net is peer to peer and video sharing.Even though the hosting companies are trying their best to increase user experience, the satisfaction of users is decreasing.Companies cant keep on investing on the same clip, says ONO chief executive Richard Alden. So people if you keep on sharing the video's on the net repeatedly, companies are not going to invest any more.So check before you upload something wheter its already present or not.

  • 50 + 40 = 70
The new marketing style of the branded cloth stores and goods in India is putting up a sale board infront of their shop.Normally some companies come up with flat a% offer and they offer some old stock to you or goods with minor defects. But for the good ones they cant come up with these flat offers. So they come up with upto 50% offer with upto written in very small size. Most of the people get into these stores thinking that they get 50% off.But now a days growing up companies like koutons, cantabil etc is attracting people by putting up boards like 50+x*% where x can be anything. Here by Im posting a pic which appears that its

    50%+40% =90%.
But when you closely observe it you find it as 50+40* [* 40% is on the price after first 50%] i.e 50+(2000/100)=70%.Any new person who sees this board gets attracted and gets into the shop.If this is restricted to global brands its good because they tell the customer as soon as one enters the shop and they provide a bit of quality .But These days even a shop on the pavement comes up with a sales board. So beware before you get into these kind of shops. Some people even believe that these global brands also increase the prices sometimes and then comes up with a sale. This information is not guaranteed one.Still next time you go for a shopping get into best branded shop to get good things.

  • Hackers attack on the root servers
Before you read this you need to know a bit of terminology
    • A set of servers called domain name servers maps the human readable names to IP adresses. These servers are simple databases that map names to IP adresses and they are distributed all over the net
    • When a computer on the Internet wants to resolve a domain name,it works from right to left, asking each name server to turn about the element to its left.
    • Each top level domain has its own set of servers which in turn delegate to the name servers responsible for individual domain names
Hackers attacked the root servers* significantly after a long time since 2002 on Tuesday night.Believed to be from Asia ,hackers bombarded 13 root servers that serve as internet central adress books. But there was very little effect on the internet users. An average user would have barely noticed it.Hackers periodically try to overwhelm the root servers with requests and information which slows down the network and increasing the server response time. The servers are distributed through out the world and, like grid, can redirect their efforts when demand is highest.Root servers manage the internet's domain name system [DNS] ,used to translate web addresses such a gmail.com into numerical Internet protocol addresses used by machines. Two servers seemed to be the target of tuesday's attack.,one operated by US defence department and another by ICANN.The attacks lasted for almost 12 hours. But the good thing is the servers are able to withstand the attack.

  • AMD making intel work

AMD,The leader in providing processor performance per dollar, never want to make Intel relax. After Intel released its core2 duo processors, people thought Intel has again regained its performance. But much to the expectations of its consumers AMD is again back by itself getting associated with ATI and ATI associating itself with Vista.making AMD -->vista :)AMD'S staff and its executives now believe that the time has come now for them to leave their benchmarks which are set on XP till now and set new ones on Windows Vista, the latest graphic sensation in the market. The executives in the company believes that Vista will improve the performance of both existing and future AMD processors, as well as Intel, though not by the same margin.Advantage for Non uniform Memory Acess[NUMA] in AMD enables multiple cores to have simultaneous access to memory by zoning that memory such that such accesses don't collide and the good thing is Vista actually does NUMA better.Apart from this AMD is working on graphics with a whole team working on it.Multicore processing for both brands, AMD argues, changes the whole nature of laborious tasks that real-world users would relegate to the background. If one brand of processor performs a typical background test in the foreground better than another brand, it doesn't mean that it will also be better if both processors were also playing a 3D game.
    AMD now
concentrate on tests that replicate environments where real-world users perform what AMD is now calling mega-tasking: a type of multitasking where the user isn't just running multiple tasks on his computer (which now takes place 100% of the time, on the granular level) but is actually doing more than one thing with the computer simultaneously. If laboratories could devise such tests, and devise them for Vista, then Schwarzbach[product marketing manager] believes the performance gap between Intel and AMD processors on XP might be closed, if not reversed.
With all these AMD appears to be always in neck to neck competition with Intel. All the best AMD

  • Online photo editing made fun

Earlier people use to edit their photos with softwares that eat a lot of resources in your PC.Now photos are edited in a new way through internet.Welcome to world of online photo editing. Here by ill give you some prominent online photo editors that i know and their features.
Picnik: It is the latest release in this segment. This is flash based and its almost the fastest of the category. It also comes with integrated flickr uploader.Once you are done with editing your photo, you can transfer your photos directly to flickr. Picnik has replaced Ajax-based PXN8 as my favorite online photo editing tool.Since its new im also publishing its features.
    • One-click photo fixing or in-depth tweaking
    • Crop, rotate, and resize in real-time
    • Tons of special effects, from artsy to fun
    • Amazingly fast
    • Works directly with many photo sharing sites
    • No download required, nothing to install!
    • Works on Mac, Windows, even Linux
    • Free and premium versions
Fauxto : It is also flash like and looks like photoshop. It can be considered the best in the category.Using it is not easy as other editors,Unless you already have knowledge of working with photoshop. It might irritate you with its complexity if you dont know much about photoshop. But its flash has been worked in such a finer way that you will feel they did some work hehe...I dont know which segment of market they wanted to target but i like it.

    Picture2life
: Its in the AJAX based segment. Its mainly targetted for grabbing and editing the pics that are online.Looks like the site is still in its dark ages with its poor interface, bugs and very less tool selection. It has also got the feature of transferring your pic to flickr, imgeshack after editing.

    PXNA
: One of the best in this segment.leader of AJAX based segment.User interface is good with the main features shown as icons. It also features uploading to flickr and save to disk.Moving your cursor shows the pixel number on the photo. It's basic enhance much works like autocorrector for your pics correcting the normal problems.

    Snipshot
:previously called Pixoh, is another very-good Ajax-based editing toolIt has got nice design and they also have a API in their service. But its now way better thab PXN8.

Preloadr:Its a Flickr based API tool which even uses flickr login to sign in.Comes with normal features like layers, filters [grayscale,..],cropping ,auto contrast....Logging and acessing pictures directly from Flickr can be termed as its advantage.

Apart from these they are also editors like dumpr.net,pixer.us....

  • Wordpress Vs blogger

Wordpress.com and blogger.com referred here are hosting service which host the blogs for those who cannot afford webspace and domain. Both of these sites have their own advantages and disadvantages .some say wordpress has more feautures and blogger is for beginners. Here ill compare both of them
The best thing one can find wiith the blogger is that it gives you direct access to the HTML of the page,You can do anything with your page right from the scratch just by having a little knowledge about the HTML and CSS.You can have your own template in blogger.com where as wordpress doesn't support that[may be security issues prevented them].Unlike blogger its easy to republish the whole site with the wordpress.it takes very less time for republishing.Unlike blogger word press has categories and a quick search facility which doesnot rely on Google.Interface for them people rocks in wordpress covering each and every feature that users loves to have. There are lot of template you can choose from for wordpress where as very less of them [especially 3 column] templates are available for blogger.Wordpress has one more feauture called password protection of posts. You can lock the posts with password to prevent others from getting access, where as blogger don't have such feature.Blogger supports multiple blogs for a single user.It has great features to control the multiple authors of any blog [ if the blog has multiple authors].Blogger has one more nice feature of saving the drafts regularly while wordpress.com doesn't have it.[Users with poor UPS better use blogger hehe].Blogger.com has got everything clear like its copyright policy, its terms and conditions where as wordpress.com doesnt have any such things on thier home page. For posting comments and to prevent spam blogger has just introduced the word verification feature.Blogger has one bad feature that if you have to view a post posted long time ago,you have to go back ways in your archives while wordpress. There is no good inbuilt tracking system for blogger to get stats, you have to reply on external counters for that. Moreover so far as i know wordpress don't allow adsense ads on its pages. So for those who wanna make some bucks with adsense its a wrong choice.
Finally if you want to have a site built with some nice templates and want to have some easy interface to edit [like sidebar] i prefer wordpress for that.Where for users who want to play with HTML of their page,I prefer Blogger

  • 'research' ing Indian's
Indians are considered one of the best engineers of the world these days. But one might had observed that very few Indians innovate and research a product.Even if they do so many a times it happens outside India.y??????
Our system is designed in such a way that students in universities have a kind of thinking like getting back the money they had paid for the education fastly and then setting up the assets and taking up the responsibility of the family and all.In US ,students have a option of part time job which helps them get the expenses needed for them for the higher studies facilitating them to think freely about the future.Apart from financial problems parents most of them behave as paranoids asking the child to get a good job and settle fast. They want to secure the future of the child. Not only parents its the surroundings that force you change your course of mind sometimes. When I was in x th standard i dreamt of becoming a scientist, but now i ended up somewhere else in IT job.Its your friends, the knowledge you acquire force you to change your course. In US ,universities get high funding for sponsoring research and education of students, where as in India getting funding for higher education is lesser case and if people study, they do it for sake of getting high salaries and for getting jobs.80% of Indian universites has very less interaction with the industry.By the time someone graduates from the university,he do know only theoretical concepts and nothin about the industry. The worse thing is except a few engineering colleges like IIT's,JIIT,BITS,NIIT.....has got faculty that can help student do research.Rest of the colleges teachers dont have proper idea of even IEEE.In such a condition how can Indians research?????
Thanks to the private universities entering the India backed by industrial majors.May they force the students do research when they are in their education itself.

  • Australian student sells his life on eBay, including 'cranky girlfriend'

Fancy a new life? An Australian man is selling his on the auction site eBay, offering his name, phone number, worldly possessions and circle of friends to the highest bidder.

Nicael Holt, a 24-year-old philosophy student, has promised to introduce the buyer to his potential lovers - "around eight which I have been flirting with", as he put it on his eBay entry - and his grand repertoire of six jokes.

Bidding started at A$5 (£2) and closed yesterday at A$7,500. Mr Holt, from Wollongong, south of Sydney, said he would go through with the deal if any of the top five bidders were genuine and prepared to pay cash.

Under an entry posted on the site earlier this month, headed "New Life for Sale!!", Mr Holt offered a broken relationship with a cranky ex-girlfriend and a four-week training course "in becoming me", including fashion sense, food tastes and "style of seduction".

He wrote that he would give the buyer "lessons in my personal history (the good and the bad stuff)", and teach them his skills, including surfing, skateboarding, handstands and "fire-twirling". From March, the new Mr Holt would also "have access to a cruisy job delivering fruit".

The real Mr Holt appears to have loftier ambitions. He told ABC radio yesterday that he planned to make a documentary about his business venture. "If any of them [the bidders] are real, I'll definitely do it, and do this documentary, because I think it would be really interesting," he said.

"But if the next five bids aren't serious, I think I might be just about ready to give up."

The sale attracted 48 bids, with the identity and gender of the highest bidder - codenamed "ridderstrade"- unknown. eBay did not comment on the sale, but allowed it to run its course.

The possessions offered include Mr Holt's bed, clothes, collection of 300 CDs, surfboard, skateboard, childhood photographs, backpack, "nice lamp which your ex-girlfriend bought you", a bicycle with "wonky handlebars" and "piercings to the value of $180".

Mr Holt promised to introduce the buyer to his social circle, comprising "15 close friends and about 170 other friends". He wrote in his entry: "Friends will treat you exactly as they have treated me... take me running, surfing, climbing and cook for me."

But the deal would not include his passport, driving license, academic qualifications, legal identity or inheritance rights. And Mr Holt warned in ominous tones: "I have 2 nemeses."
