- Firefox 3 Add-ons Manager is almighty too
Firefox Add-ons Manager has finally got extended to feature complete integration with Mozilla Add-ons (AMO) site through a new page added to the Add-ons Manager.
The Get Add-ons page features a search box, a browse all add-ons link that takes you to Mozilla Add-ons, and a list of recommended extensions and themes by default.
Enter a search term, press the search button and a list of matching themes and extensions compatible with your Firefox version is returned with the add-on name, its icon, a brief description and current rating. Click on an add-on for a more detailed description, a thumbnail, and a button to install the add-on without leaving Firefox.

My only suggestion would be to add some visual cue that the add-on is either an extension or a theme before having to select it.
The theme installation processed has also been simplified. In the past, when you installed a new theme, you were prompted to restart only to find that the new theme was not displayed. You had to activate it from the Themes page and restart Firefox yet again. Now, installed themes are automatically activated!
Also, the restart button has been moved to the information bar to drive more attention.

And don't forget a couple of features introduced in the past. First, a new Plugins manager was added to make plugins enabling and disabling a dead simple task.
Second, add-ons updates are much more secure since they require either to happen over an encrypted connection (an prevent someone purporting the update site) or the add-on developer to sign it so updates can be challenged for the appropriate encryption key.
There's also good news in the add-ons compatibility front as Blog of Metrics reported last week that 40% of the add-ons that represent 95% of Mozilla Add-ons usage are already compatible with Firefox 3 Beta 2, the latest development release. And the picture should get even better as developer documentation gets updated and events like today's Add-ons Hygiene and the announced Extend Firefox 3 contest take place.
That's for yet another almighty feature for Firefox 3. Hopefully the search plugins manager will make its way to the Add-ons Manager on time for the final release.

- Open Hotmail with Firefox from Windows Live Messenger
One of the biggest problems with Live messenger is it automatically assumes that you like Internet Explorer to view hotmail or any other live mail accounts. This is so wrong because most of us use Firefox as our default browsers. So it's a bit annoying when clicking on the email button in messenger directly opens IE and starts loading hotmail.
So here is a nice utility which allows you to customize in which browser you want to open your hotmail page

Even if you set firefox as the default browser, only the links get open. The email button always opens IE to load your hotmail. This is ok if you use IE7 with IE7 pro , and a disaster if you are still using IE6 in older OS, or if you prefer opening hotmail in Firefox.

1 . Install the latest version of Window Live Messenger (not a beta, might not work with a beta)
2. Install Messenger Plus! Live
2. Download StuffPlug and install.
3. Launch Windows Live Messenger and sign in.
4. Try clicking the email icon and see if your Hotmail inbox will be launched in Firefox. If not, then click StuffPlug 3 from menu and select Options. Go to General tab and make sure the option "Open all URLs in default browser" is checked.

OK now you are done, you can open your email links in your default browser, may it be opera or firefox.

- Google Docs Uploader
Google released a basic application for Windows that lets you upload files to Google Docs by using drag and drop. The application is more like a sample for Google Docs API, but it's pretty useful if you want to upload a lot of documents. There's also an option to add "Send to Google Docs" to the contextual menu so you can upload files directly from Windows Explorer.
The application requires .NET Framework 2.0.

- Yahoo! Messenger for Vista Refresh

Yahoo has released a new Refresh edition of the yahoo messenger for vista, with more stability and lots of bugfixes. This one signs in faster than the old one (sign in time was an issue on the previous vista edition), seems like they have fixed it and on the road to a good release.
So far there's the ability to change the layout and colors of your IM contact list, a tabbed conversation window for simplifying multiple conversations, and a sidebar gadget that gives you the option of keeping important contacts separate from the conversation window. This sidebar gadget appears to be taking advantage of some of the Vista APIs that were announced in October. The overall look is very Vista-y, as you can tell by the screen shots below. In terms of sharing items with your contacts, you can send files as large as 2 GB. There's also the ability to send IMs to both your Yahoo and Windows Live Messenger contacts.

- Windows 7 to be released next year?

A recently-release roadmap for the next major Window release Windows 7 indicates that Microsoft is planning to release the new operating system in the second half of 2009, rather than the anticipated release date of some time in 2010.
There are apparently three milestone builds planned for 2008, and the first one M1 has already shipped to key partners for code validation. M1 is for the English language build only, but is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Microsoft has announced that Windows 7 will most likely be the last Windows operating system available in 32-bit, and given the rapid advances Windows Vista is making in the 64-bit computing market, this seems a sensible decision.
(Is this Windows 7: this screenshot, floating around on online forums, purports to be from an alpha of Windows 7. Probably fake, but interesting nonetheless.)
M2 should ship around April/May, and M3 some time in the third quarter of 2008. Theres no available roadmap information about further milestone, beta or release candidate builds, except the updated RTM release date of H2 2009.
If Windows 7 is released in the second half of 2009, this will be three years after Windows Vista which went RTM in November 2006. A three-year major product cycle would take the Windows operating system out of cycle with Windows Server, which is on an approximate four-year cycle.
The big question is who in the market will respond to an early release. The transition to Windows Vista seems to have caused a lot of angst amongst users, but I think has far more to do with moving out of the Windows XP comfort zone, rather than any indication of Vistas quality or stability. In which case, perhaps a shorter product cycle from here on in will get users and businesses thinking ahead much quicker, not to mention the hardware vendors who were the major contributors to Vistas shaky start.

- vLite 1.1
Windows Vista from Microsoft takes a lot of resources, we all know that. So here is the tool for easy removal of unwanted components and bootable ISO creation in order to make Vista run faster and to your liking. This tool doesn't use any kind of hacking, all files and registry entries are in their original form and protected as they would be if you install the full version only without the components you select for the removal.
It configures the installation directly, before the installation, meaning you'll have to remake the ISO and reinstall it. This method is much cleaner, not to mention easier and more logical than doing it after installation on every reinstall.
Change log:
new: Boot.wim cleanup (automatic with removed components)
new: Third Apply method - Rebuild All
new: Hide individual components (right-click menu)
new: Power button tweaks
new: 'Network Explorer'
new: 'Firewire (1394)'
new: 'Storage Controllers'
fix: UAC tweak
fix: UAC removal (Network Center, Users panel)
fix: Natural Language breaking Search
