  • Green Edge Systems to introduce its GreenGuard platform
    Green Edge Systems, Inc., based out of Woodland Hills California, is set to introduce its cutting edge smart controls at the Texas Association of School Business Officials (TABCO) conference in Austin, Texas on March 5-6.  GreenGuard hardware and software products are able to consistently monitor and control air conditioning, refrigeration, and lighting to the optimum efficiency in order to conserve energy and save money for the energy consumer.
    GreenGuard is built in to PCS Revenue Control Systems’ Back of the House System as a modular add on.  Temperature monitoring, alerts, energy consumption monitoring, and maintenance monitoring are all included in the GreenGuard package.  These products are designed for schools, hospitals and college campuses.

  • Call for smart meters on E-Day
    February 27th was a day marked to provide initiative to raise awareness on electrical inefficiency by turning off unused appliances in the home.  At the same time, organizers of ‘E-Day’ and environmental groups call for smart meters to be introduced that can show the actual cost of energy consumed in the home.

    Is there anything not to like about smart meters?  As energy consumption becomes prohibitively expensive, compounded by rising pressure on the public to become more efficient and conservative in our energy use, smart meters seem to be the panacea for all our energy ills.

  • National Grid PLC hit with record fine
    National Grid PLC, owner of 80% of Britain’s gas meters, was hit with a record £41.6 million fine for anti-competitive tactics.  According to consumer watchdog Ofgem, British consumers were not given the chance to use smart meters that can reduce energy bills because the company refused to replace its traditional metering devices with the more advanced smart meters.

  • US Electric grid needs modernization
    Kurt Yeager, executive director of the Galvin Electricity Initiative, believes the entire power industry needs to be overhauled to reliably meet future power demands.  Addressing an audience of state and federal regulators at the National Electricity Delivery Forum in Washington D.C. on February 20, Yeager made a speech to a keynote panel during the evening.  Yeager said new technologies must be leveraged now to modernize the unreliable and inefficient power grid and that the future of the entire power system relies upon these modernizations.

  • Smart meters need a smart grid
    The Ontario Power Authority, based in Toronto, Canada, recently developed a plan to purchase energy from 262 brand new and under construction power plants that generate energy from renewable resources.  When added to the system, these new sources of energy will add over 1 gigawatt of capacity to the Ontario power grid.

  • Plan calls for reduced price smart meters
    Homeowners in Brisbane, Australia would be able to purchase smart meters at a reduced price as part of an energy plan introduced by the Liberal party.  The energy plan is focusing on reducing greenhouse gases emitted in the city.
