New Worm accounts for over 70% of all virus reports in last 24 hours...
Internet security firms on Tuesday issued a high-level alert to computer
users
about the spread of the "Worms-Sober.S" virus, which makes recipients
believe they have won tickets to the 2006 football World Cup.
Trend Micro placed the virus in its 'red alert' category, saying that "using
social engineering techniques, it sends out an email supposedly sent by the
soccer organization Fifa," offering tickets to the 2006 tournament in Germany.
US firm McAfee classified the virus as a "medium risk", saying the email
message, written in German, "specifically targets German users".
But Trend Micro and Panda Software said the virus could be spread in either
English or German. Panda said it had attacked computers in Austria, Germany,
Switzerland and the United States.
The email includes correct contact information for a Fifa official.
A previous version of the "Sober" virus made users think that their private
emails had gone to the wrong address, prompting them to open an infected
attachment.

Microsoft Corp.'s next-generation Xbox gaming console code-named Xenon
will be more of a digital entertainment hub than its predecessor, making it even
more of a PC hybrid than ever, Bill Gates told a meeting of the Society of
American Business Editors and Writers on Monday. Xenon, is due to be
previewed in an MTV half-hour special later this month. Gates said
Xenon's software menu would be similar to that of the company's Media
Center edition of Windows, which is designed for computers meant to
be located in the living room.
"If you're used to that menu, when you use this Xenon you'll see a menu a
lot like that that lets you get photos, TV, music and all those different
things."
Gates also emphasized how Xenon would take advantage of the growing
availability of televisions and content in high-definition (HD) format, which
allows clearer pictures to be displayed on large, wide screens.
Asked if Microsoft would be able to beat Sony with Xenon, gates said
that several top employees involved with Xenon had promised Microsoft
Chief Executive Steve Ballmer that Xenon would beat Sony and that he
welcomed that "competitive dynamic."
I can't wait to get my hands on it....

Researchers from the lab in Beijing have developed a system that can take
your still photographs and automatically convert them into motion clips.
"A single photograph contains extremely rich content," said Xian-Sheng Hua, the
lead researcher on the project. "We wanted to use this content to build
entertaining videos from still photos."
In the Photo2Video project, the researchers used three key steps to
automatically convert photos into video, taking their cues from traditional
filmmaking techniques. The steps are story generation, framing scheme, and video
composition.

Lotus Notes Creator Joins Microsoft...
The first messaging system of its kind was created by IT guru Ray Ozzie and for many years he has run Groove Networks.
Groove Networks makes Virtual Office - easily and affordably erases the physical and organizational boundaries that separate teams of workers.
The benefits of doing business in a virtual office are obvious: closer
contact with customers by having employees in multiple cities, the ability to
hire workers who can work from home and during flextime, reduced real estate
costs.
Groove Virtual Office lets small businesses take advantage of those benefits and
still work like everyone was in one place... without having to hire an IT
manager.
...and now Microsoft own it...
