Does it make the world go round?
Is it the root of all evil?
Can it not buy you love?
Commercialism and consumerism have become the alters that we all kneel to and increasing personal debt is price we now pay. It is estimated that our personal debt is increasing by £1 million every four minutes!
Such is our urge to spend on the latest gadgets, exotic holidays, ideal homes and those ‘must have’ shoes, thousands of us are looking at a debt sentence of 77 years before we’re back in the black. According to research giants Mintel, UK consumer spending has hit the £1 trillion mark for the first time. From this evidence it would appear that we are happy living in debt, whilst toiling hard to pay off our mortgages, loans and credit cards. Yet the dramatic increase in personal bankruptcies and the high rise in those seeking counseling for debt suggests the contrary.
I'm not setting out to give you tips on how to reduce your debt or increase your income as there are numerous books and television programs dedicated to such issues. Instead I will focus on your attitudes towards money, wealth, debt and abundance. My aim is to facilitate a change in the way you think and feel about money. This shift in consciousness can help manifest a change in your actions, which in return will provide a change in your rewards.
M is for MONEY
I can’t take HIS money
I can’t print MY OWN money
I have to work for money, why don’t I just lay down and die?
Homer Simpson
Some people see money only as energy, it’s neither good nor bad, it is neutral. The economic world attributes a value to it and as a society we place a value upon it. As an energy it follows a path that we lay down for it, if we allow a flow it will create more, if we let the flow stagnate, then so does our financial health.
Without money the western world would not survive and so it follows that the more money you have the more choices you will have in life. Below I have listed some statements relating to money, read through them and note how many resonate with you.
• A penny saved is a penny earned
• Money only comes from hard work
• Money doesn’t grow on trees
• Save some for a rainy day
• Money is the root of all evil
• My parents were poor, and I will be poor
• Money goes out faster than it comes in
• Rich people are crooks
• I will never get a good job
• I will never make any money
If any rang true for you, they may well be getting the way of you reaching prosperity. REMEMBER: you only manifest in your life what you consciously think about and focus on.

Hi there everyone,
Did you know that weight training could be as effective as endurance exercises like running, swimming or cycling when it comes to burning fat and warding off diabetes, a study suggests.
Professor Ken Fox, an exercise specialist at the University of Bristol, said that attention was increasingly turning to resistance exercise as a means to improve metabolism and help lose weight. Resistance training has been more often associated with serious athletes and body builders than with slimming, especially by women, but it is a beneficial way of helping your body get rid of those excess pounds.
Many women worry that by using weights they will turn themselves into the Incredible Hulk. But it’s actually quite difficult for anyone to put on significant amounts of muscle, and it is MUCH more difficult for women. The most important factor in muscle gain is the male hormone testosterone, which women have very little of, thankfully! But it’s not only woman that shy away from resistance training but also the older members of society.
Numerous studies confirm that resistance training can preserve and even increase resting metabolism. What that means is that regardless of age and sex - resistance training can help you lose weight. Here are some other very good to reason to take up resistance training:
If you aren’t familiar with resistance training then I strongly suggest you get some expert advice before you start. And if you haven’t exercised or a long time, or you have high blood pressure then please consult your doctor before doing any of this type of training.
You might want to consider investing in a personal trainer. Personal training is now much more accessible, it’s possible to get a trainer to teach you about resistance training and design a specific programme for yourself.
Take good care.
Pete.
Hi there all.
Some members on my weight loss programme publish some of their journal entries; I read this one and wanted to share it with you all:
This is a great example of someone breaking a habit and doing something different. I challenge all of you to get into the habit of breaking the habits that hold you back. How about YOU get into the habit of eating more fruit. Check out the blog entries on apples and bananas.
Take care,
Pete
Hi there guys and girls,
Did you know there's an old saying that goes ‘A path with no obstacles goes nowhere’.
There are always going to be times when you make a mistake or think you’ve failed. Most of us fear failure because we think it means that we are failures. But failing is just something we have to do occasionally – it’s the other side of success. When we get things wrong, it’s an ideal opportunity to learn.
What you’ve done is less important than your response to what you’ve done. So if, for example, you overeat because you're stressed, or tired, or bored. Just say, ‘Ok, that’s what I did this time – What will I do differently next time?’
Think back to when you learned to drive or ride a bike. You almost certainly didn’t get that right first time. But the mistakes you made were signposts that gave you the opportunity to learn.
Dieters are always one mouthful away from failure: one piece of chocolate or a late night binge and they think, ‘I’ve blown it', and what a great excuse to dive back into your old bad habits that is! But once it’s eaten, it’s finished, it’s history! Stop beating yourself up and get on with your life. The successful slimmers I’ve worked with have used experiences like this as opportunities to learn.
Recently I talked about the old saying that “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”
So have you been eating more apples? I have, especially the Pink Lady apple. In fact I used to go out with a girl from Australia whose father was the horticulturalist who designed the apple!
However, is it just an apple a day that keeps the doctor away? I don’t think so. What about the old banana then?
When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorous, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around!
It contains three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fibre and a banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy. Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.
But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.
So maybe it’s time to update that well-known phrase and say:
Now, is there another daily essential we should add...? What's your can't-live-without food? Put it in the comments...
It's scientifically proven: The key isn't just what you eat, it's what you write.
So this is why my programme includes a journal for you to use every day.
"Studies show that a journal doesn't just aid weight loss — it turbo-charges it. When researchers from Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research followed more than 2,000 dieters who were encouraged to record meals and snacks, they found that the single best predictor of whether a participant would drop weight was whether the person kept a food diary"

I can't wait to hear more! :)
Yesterday at the gym at 6.30 am. Resistance first then cardio. Quite enjoying early morning exercise. I feel invigorated for the day. Lots of messages of support from my work friends and patients. Continued support from my loved ones. Followed Amanda's nutrition plan throughout the day and not missing any foods. Ate at friends last night - baked salmon and stir fried veggies - delicious. Suddenly became very tired and found it difficult to keep my eyes open when driving home. Really wanted caffeine but refrained and slept like a baby. I feel pretty good and really motivated.
The kind folks at Telegraph.co.uk have put up one of my clips too.

Here's some excerpts from the first of a series of pieces in The Daily Telegraph:

This week sees the start of The Daily Telegraph newspaper's feature on my weight loss website petecohen.tv. There will be some interesting editorial that I know you will enjoy reading. The feature starts this Tuesday (tomorrow) and runs through till Thursday. Pick up a Telegraph if you can...
I remember growing up hearing my mum say to me that “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”...
I heard this so many times it became a very strong belief and I've made a habit out of eating them regularly to improve my health and to 'keep the doctor away'. What about you? Also, do you know what makes an apple so special?
Why is it that we never hear that an orange, or even a banana a day keeps-the-doctor-away? An apple has a combination of properties that no other fruits have and the benefits have been proven over time. Of course you could match the health potential of an apple with other fruits but it would require a bit of a cocktail, whereas an apple combines everything and keeps it simple.
Apples also contain Vitamin C which greatly helps your immune system. A lot of people who lack Vitamin C in their diet have poor healing, bruise easily and have bleeding gums. Your apple is also low in calories; a regular size apple has between 70-100 calories and eating an apple when a craving for chocolate occurs can relieve the desire since the apple contains sugar, but gives you only ¼ of the calories.
On average, British people consume around 20 pounds of apples a year, which comes in at around 1 apple per person, per week. Unfortunately, while an apple a week is better than nothing, it is nowhere close to being able to harness the advantages apples have to offer.
Eating apples is part of a balanced and healthy diet approach than can increase your longevity. So, why limit yourself to only 1 per week - how about one a day? Keep the chocolate away!
