  • You Have Dozens of Ideas - How Do You Decide Which Ones to Implement?

It’s been a while since I posted last. I have about 40 or so article ideas recorded in my Google Notebook, but I just didn’t feel good about writing on any of them right now. Enter Jarkko Laine, the man insanely interested in everything. About a week ago I received an email from Jarkko. He said that he was contacting the most famous (just kidding) bloggers that he knew to ask them one question: How do you decide which ideas to implement?

  • Look Back at ‘07 and Moving Forward in ‘08

On May 26, 2007, Random Jabber was born. I guess time really does fly when you’re having fun because it definitely does not feel like I’ve had this blog online for seven months now. Everyone says that once you make it past the magical three month mark, you’re home free. I don’t know what the percentage is exactly, but I know it’s a very small number of blogs actually make it past the third month and I’m elated knowing that I’ve made it this far. In the foreseeable future, I don’t anticipate closing Random Jabber, so hopefully I can continue…

  • Sizcons Additions and David Airey
    Sizcons Additions

A while back I received a few emails from readers (Stefan Moeller and Style Ignite) requesting the addition of some icons into the Sizcons set. I had been pretty busy working on other projects and never had the time to design these icons in a prompt manner for these individuals as I said I would when I replied back to them. I apologize for that, but better late than never, right?

    Here’s what was added:

    • Updated flags with different colors and more detail.
    • Printer icon.
    • Upload and…

    • Is Web Development as Bad in Your City as it is Here?
      Nightscape of Lexington Kentucky

I’ve been pondering the idea of starting my own company offering web design and development solutions (more on this in a later article). With this in mind, I got curious about the quality of work companies are doing here in Lexington, KY. I decided to Google “Web design in Lexington, KY” to see what I could find. Although Lexington is the second largest city in Kentucky, it’s still very small with close to 300,000 people. There are actually more companies offering web design/development services than I expected.

To my surprise, after looking at quite a few company websites…

    • Retailers: Stop The “Call For Price” Madness Already

I can’t tell you how sick and tired I am of looking through merchandise, either online or in a catalog and seeing the text “call for price” or “price to low to advertise” next to the item. Am I the only one?

I don’t claim to be a advertising expert, and maybe my thoughts on this are way off base, but these two forms of advertising have got to be the two worst things you can do if you’re trying to sell your merchandise. I’m sure these companies get a few people here and there on these scams,…

    • Five Things You Didn’t Know About Me Before Reading This

Wow! Since I’ve started blogging, time really seems to fly by! If I didn’t know better, I would say it’s only been a couple days since my last post, but I look at the dates and see that it’s actually coming up on 10 days. Sorry for the break in posts! I’ll blame it on holiday travel. smile

Anyway, it seems that if you blog for long enough, you end up doing one of these “Things you didn’t know about me” posts. I’ve been real busy lately working on another site, so…

    • It’s Better to Try and Fail Than to Have Never Tried At All

How many times have you wanted to do something but for whatever reason you never tried? Maybe it was fear of failure? Maybe you fear ridicule from your peers? Maybe you thought about your idea so much that it started to sound stupid and you simply talked yourself out of it? Don’t worry, we’ve all done these things.

I’m sure you have heard the old saying that it’s better to have tried and failed at something than to have never tried at all? Sure you have, who hasn’t? If you stop and think about the message for a…

    • Slight Change of Direction with Nice Stylesheet

Almost all so called “CSS galleries” would be better labeled “digital art galleries”.

As I’m sure all of you know, I launched my own CSS Gallery a couple weeks ago. If you were around at the time I published the first designs, you probably noticed that the gallery had some of the same designs that you currently see on every other showcase site, e.g., Veerle’s Blog, and Web Designer Wall. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with these designs. In fact, they are…

    • My First Guest Post

I don’t have a lot of time here, so I’ll make it quick. Just wanted to let everyone know about my first guest post. Adnan from Blogtrepreneur asked me a couple weeks ago if I would write a guest post. I was honored to even be asked to write a guest post, so there was no doubt I would be writing one.

The idea came up the other day when I asked another designer that I chat with every now and again his opinion of a design and he…

    • Free Blog Tips Review

A while back I came across a link on The Blog Experiment for five free blog tips from Easton Ellsworth. I guess I just got lucky because Easton actually gave me 10 tips instead of five.

Here they are and my thoughts on each:

      1. Add a clear tagline so the blog’s title doesn’t make too many people think it’s just random chit-chat.

I agree and disagree. I know that focusing on one specific topic is good, I just like having a few topics I can write…
