  • Rez HD and Ikaruga coming to Xbox 360 Live Arcade! Other XBLA games also announced
confirmation of Ninja Gaiden 2 (http://www.videogamesblogger.com/2007/09/12/ninja-gaiden-2-xbox-360-screenshots-surface-but-are-they-for-real.htm) for Xbox 360, at a Microsoft press conference before the opening of the Tokyo Game Show. Rez is a cult-classic music-based shooter developed by Tetsuya Mizuguchi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetsuya_Mizuguchi). He is also famous for titles like Space Channel 5 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Channel_5), Meteos and, more recently, Ninety-Nine Nights. Rez will join his other two puzzlers, Lumines Live, and the forthcoming Every Extend Extra Extreme (http://www.videogamesblogger.com/2007/03/06/every-extend-extra-extreme-e4-announced-for-xbox-live-arcade-with-added-rez-2-rumors.htm), on Xbox Live Arcade. Now all we need is Space Channel 5 one and two on XBLA to complete the collection. Talking about Rez HD, Mizuguchi says, “We are excited to announce that Rez will be given a new life, this time in digital form. The game will be presented in hi-definition and will be accessible to those who did not have a chance to experience Rez the first time around. Personally, Rez has been and will always be a lifelong concept. I hope to take what I learned from the experience of creating the original game and look forward to taking it to a whole new level in the future.”Ikaruga is a Treasure (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treasure_Co._Ltd)-developed shooter that was first released in arcades and then ported to the Dreamcast and GameCube. In the game you switch a ship between white and dark colors as you dodge thousands of bullets that head your way. This updated version will include online co-op play as well as a “slow motion” training mode. Microsoft also revealed some other forthcoming Xbox Live Arcade games. • New Lost Odyssey (Xbox 360) trailer, game set for February 2008
At Microsoft’s Pre-Tokyo Game Show (http://tgs.cesa.or.jp/english) press conference in Japan, one point they tried to get across to the Japanese audience was their commitment to the Japanese RPG on Xbox 360. One way they did this was by showing off more games by respected developer Hironobu Sakaguchi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hironobu_Sakaguchi), the creator of Final Fantasy who just recently shipped Blue Dragon and was on-hand to show off his next RPG masterpiece, Lost Odyssey, a game I’m looking forward to a lot more than I was Blue Dragon (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/b/bluedragonxbox360/). Lost Odyseey is 95% finished and will be released on December 6th in Japan, January 2008 throughout the rest of Asia, and February 2008 in the US and Europe. Sakaguchi demonstrated the game by showing a playable demo, where the active battle system was shown off, in addition to glimpses of the game’s spell-casting and cut-scenes. He even lost a battle while playing! Check out a new trailer from TGS for Lost Odyssey below to see what this titles all about. • Team Fortress 2 Beta starts on September 17 for PC (Steam) pre-orderers
The Orange Box via Steam (http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=package&SubId=469) before the October 10 release, you get exclusive access to the Team Fortress 2 Beta on September 17 and you also save 10% off the regular price. As a special bonus, those who pre-purchase The Orange Box via Steam will also receive a copy of Peggle Extreme, which I’m sure is exactly what all the FPS buffs were waiting for. To bring gamers up to date with the Half-Life 2 universe, The Orange Box also includes Half-Life 2, the best-selling and highest-rated action game series of all time, and the episodic debut Half-Life 2: Episode One. Customers who already own these titles will have the ability to conveniently “gift” them to a friend upon official release of The Orange Box. Also included are the new games Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Team Fortress 2, and Portal. Starting Monday, September 17, those who pre-purchased The Orange Box via Steam can download and activate the beta release of Team Fortress 2 (TF2). This year’s most anticipated online action game, TF2 delivers new game types, a signature art style powered by Valve’s next generation animation technology, persistent player statistics, and more. The TF2 Beta will start with only a handful of maps, but all of the game’s nine character classes will be available from the beginning. The classes are: Medic, Demoman, Heavy, Spy, Scout, Engineer, Sniper, Soldier, and Pyro. • Uncharted: Drake's Fortune gets November 20th release date in US for PS3
Naughty Dog (http://www.naughtydog.com), the guys who brought you Jak and Daxter (http://www.jakanddaxterlegend.com) and it hits day and date with another huge, epic game . . . Mass Effect (http://www.videogamesblogger.com/2007/08/30/mass-effect-release-date-november-20th-2007-confirmed-by-bioware.htm) for the Xbox 360. Another game that may hit on the same day is the multiplatform music game Rock Band (http://www.videogamesblogger.com/2007/08/26/rock-band-drum-battle-gameplay-video.htm) . . . so consumers definitely have a conundrum when trying to decide which title they are going to choose come Nov. 20th. Uncharted follows a treasure hunter who believes himself to be descended from the famous explorer Sir Francis Drake. To restore fame and fortune to his family’s name, he sets about island-hopping in the Caribbean to find the fabled, gold-packed city of El Dorado. Complications ensue when his seaplane crashes and he finds himself stranded on a remote isle crawling with ruthless, heavily armed mercenaries. For more info on the game check out our previous Uncharted Drake’s Fortune coverage (http://www.videogamesblogger.com/2007/05/18/uncharted-drakes-fortune-video-demo.htm).
