  • berlinlife06: Up again??
berlinlife06: Yesterday the oil prices in the market reach the all time high of $80 a barrel. That automatically made the gas prices today even higher in Berlin. What I don't understand is, how come they can increase the price from one day to the next when actually they haven't bought new gasoline at new prices? They still have the same as yesterday's and yet, it is more expensive... Shouldn't it be a law against that??

  • tater03: All Season Tires?
berlinlife06: Here in Germany people have 2 sets of tires, and there is really a big difference in safety and in the way the car can break with winter tires and all season tires. I actually saw it myself at a training for drivers. And they also say that the winter tires in the sumer consume more gasoline. There must be something of truth, even though I always had all season tires.

  • SageMother: Having only one car
SageMother: The gas isn't the only issue. The insurance rates are nuts for some people, especially since some insurance companies will base part of your fee on your credit rating. There really should be a law against their doing that!

  • Fuel: Use synthetic oil
SageMother: Well it looks like I need to replace my usual oil with synth at my next oil change. My list of tweaks keeps getting longer and longer!

  • trick r treat: Are they dead?
SageMother: I think they are reworking the storage systems to extend the length of charge and the control of energy discharge. Once they get these things to work better, I think we will see more options in the electric car market.

  • sarge: Something that definitely works
berlinlife06: That sounds really good! The difference in gas saving is really big, specially being the same car! Congratulations. And about the tire pressure, I was just watching on TV that people loose around 50 gallons of gas a year just because of wrong air pressure in their tires!

  • SageMother: Gas Cap
SageMother: During the oil embargo in the 70's, locking gas caps became popular because desperate commuters would siphon gas form cars parked in front of homes! Other than the lock keeping that from happening, I thought there might be some relation ship between the pressure that cap exerted to hold gas fumes in the car and slow waste through evaporation. Hmmmm

  • Calypso: Price
tater03: I think giving a tax break would help. I never thought about the mechanical aspect of it. I would think that it would be quite pricey then also if you were to need to take it to the mechanics then.

  • Gas: Does anyone use the tools, links at the top of this website?
berlinlife06: I am in Berlin, so I actually doubt that they'll have the best prices in my area. I have never used it. But I know pretty much where the gas is cheaper here.

  • tater03: Avoid Warming Car Up
SageMother: Fuel injected cars don't need to be warmed to get fuel flowing, but what about steering fluids and such? Dont they need a little heat to do their jobs?
