In light of the recent S60 Touch UI screenshots seen all across the internet, I noticed some important cues about the new utilization of touch into the S60 environment, and I am particularly turned off.
If you look closely, the Menu/Task Switcher element is in the upper left corner. This might go unnoticed by Symbian S60 neophytes, but hard core users like myself will notice a complete shift in Symbian and Nokia's philosophy of one-handed operation.
How so, you might ask? I'll explain. The majority of the world is right handed, hence, devices are usually designed with a right handed person in mind. If this were so, and the devi... .. .

The mobile market offers vast and varied opportunities for developers, with platforms such as Nokia's Symbian, Windows Mobile and Linux-based platforms vying for developer mindshare.
However, as a group of leaders at a recent meeting of the New York Software Industry Association (NYSIA) here said, developers are most likely to go to the platform that makes things efficient for them and where they can make the most money building applications.
Right now, Symbian is the mobile market leader with the largest number of smart phones based on the SymbianOS, but as the market evolves that could change. "We want to enable developers to take what they know and build what they wan... .. .

Along with its debut to the masses, Qik has made some tweaks and has expanded its hardware reach and added more compatible handsets to the list of Symbian devices it currently supports. I'm sure everyone read my rant on how OEM's have ruined the state of international 3G. Right now, your phones only work in certain places on the globe. Manufacturers and carriers has somehow conspired to control our travel, phone choices, and carrier selection.
It's stupid that they think European, African, Australian, and Asian users should be able to have a common uninterrupted 3G footprint UNTIL THEY COME TO NORTH AND SOUTH AMERICA, and vice versa. I, myself, would like to be paired with Asia and Africa, the emerging mobile and business market.
I know alot of British energy industry people that'd love a phone that worked there as well as Venezuela's oil and gas fields, and could care less about Asia and Australia. For wha... .. .

The folks over at Just Another Mobile Phone blog have somehow managed to get the first screenshot of the long awaited 5th edition of the Symbian S60 platform that is also know as S60 touch UI but the revelation is not as exciting as it is supposed to be, unfortunately!
It's kind of hard to say something cleaver about upcoming touch UI that hasn't been said before and make an interesting story based on the single screenshot which is by the way obviously taken out of the S60 5th edition SDK emulator not from the real device!
The UI core basically remains the same and it looks like the classic S60 FP2 UI with slightly redesigned interface to make it optimized for both finger or stylus optimized input. In a matter of fact, judging by the leaked screenshot the main chan.. .. .

Hey has anyone of you guys seen the new Batman movie? I think that Nokia tube phone plays meaty role in The Dark Knight :]
I saw a scene where Morgan Freeman using a touchscreen phone labeled as Nokia!?!? ..and oh yeah, the 6630 was seen too.. ..a lot of Nokia phones are seen in movies nowadays...
The tube phone looked really great.. ..it made me drool over the place.. (I'm exaggerating) like I wanted to have a grab on that phone. What's interesting though in the movie is, it was used to jam the electric power system of the whole buil... .. .

I was wondering something. I read at EngadgetMobile that the xda devs have figured out how to unlock the 850mhz GSM frequency on the Touch Diamond!! This is simply amazing, as some have complained that it didn't support the 850mhz spectrum.
Now what I wonder is this: I don't know the actual radio chip's physical construction, but if a GSM radio can be hacked and given another additional frequency, how possible or difficult would it be to alter the 3G frequency of an Nseries device?
If this could be done, Euro versions would be obsolete, and Americans could finally choose the device they wish, regardless of carrier or world region! I wished that it wouldn't need to come to that. The technology is there where it shouldn't be necess... .. .

After the successful beta testing period I am proud to announce that major update for the best 3rd party gallery application for S60 phones is on the way. Lots of considerable improvements and new features have been implemented and once again Resco Photo Viewer is proving to be the only serious alternative to default S60 Gallery application!
Although I know most of you will not agree with me, default S60 gallery is the pretty bad solution in my personal opinion! OK, there is no doubt that it looks awesome, it causes a wow-effect at first sight but after some time it could become very annoy... .. .
