- Fight Preview: Juan Urango vs. Ricky Hatton
IBF junior welterweight champion Juan Urango is set to defend his title when he squares off with former world champion Ricky Hatton on Saturday January 20 from the Paris Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. HBO will broadcast the title fight at 9:45 PM ET/6:45 PM PT.
- Bundrage Edges Smith Over Distance
There's still some bite left in the dog but the mechanic looked like he was close to taking him to the vet to get fixed. Cornelius "K9" Bundrage was forced to rally to score a narrow 10-round split decision over hard luck Chris "The Mechanic" Smith in a welterweight encounter.
- Thompson TKO's Frazier
Anthony "The Messenger" Thompson continued to emphatically deliver his communication by means of two fists in scoring a sixth round TKO over the Robert "Push-Up" Frazier. The 25-year-old junior middleweight Thompson from Philly, hurt Frazier at the end of the 3rd and the 4th rounds but the veteran journeyman managed to remain upright. However, that all changed in the 6th, when Thompson tattooed Frazier with a searing right hand to the belly that dropped the Rochester, New York boxer to one knee for a nine-count.

- Simms Dethrones Bloody Rivera
Straight left hands down the middle were the difference as southpaw challenger Travis Simms turned the WBA super welterweight champion Jose Antonio Rivera's face into a bloody pulp. The lefthander Simms dropped the hard-hitting Rivera in the 2nd and again in the ninth rounds. With blood pouring from his nose and matting his chest, Rivera was able to beat the count but when the action resumed, Simms landed another scalding volley of leather and the world champion's face was covered with gore. Referee Frank Santore Jr. had finally seen enough and he stepped between the two boxers with Rivera still upright and the contest was halted at 2:00 of the ninth round.

Tae Bo boxing lessons anyone? The bigger, stronger, younger boxer laid the wood to the older, smaller, fatter fighter and at the end of the evening Samuel Peter had scored a commanding 12 round unanimous decision in his rematch with James "Lights Out" Toney. The WBC Board of Governors ordered a rematch between Peter and Toney after their first bout in September, following a very controversial split-decision that had the "Nigerian Nightmare" claiming victory.

The Frenchman Jean Paul Mendy and the Pride of Mansfield, Ohio, Anthony Hanshaw hammered away at each other for twelve grueling rounds and at the end of the night with blood splattered on the canvas and the fans screaming the result was a draw. Boxing in the finals of the Showtime "ShoBox" tournament, the two undefeated super middleweights left little to prove other than the tourney still needs a winner.

Scorching right hands to the chin and savage left hooks to the body have a way of making for a short night. That was the storyline in Mississippi, as Anthony Peterson rang in the New Year by scoring a devastating fourth round knockout over Juan Humberto Garza. The younger of the boxing Peterson brothers, Anthony caught the veteran Garza with two whip-like right hands to the jaw followed by several hard hooks to the ribs and one final right cross to the chin to put a closer on the evening.

- Tyson Arrested On DUI & Drug Charges
Former heavyweight world champion “Iron” Mike Tyson was released from jail without bond was following an early morning arrest in Buckeye, Arizona, on felony drug possession charges. The 40-year-old Tyson was arrested in early morning hours on Friday, after allegedly almost hitting a police vehicle. According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s office, law enforcement officers made the arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of cocaine when police stopped the former boxer shortly after he left a Scottsdale nightclub.

World Boxing Association light middleweight champion "El Gallo" Jose Antonio Rivera broke his New England-based training camp today and headed south for final preparations leading up to his January 6 title defense against Travis Simms fighting on Showtime live from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

IBA World middleweight title-holder "Ireland's" John Duddy, does not have a career-threatening detached retina, contrary to an erroneous report, and he pulled out of his scheduled January 11th fight in New York because cuts over his eyes, suffered September 29 in his title-winning fight against Luis Ramon "Yory Boy" Campas, haven't completely healed.
- Hernandez Shocks Litzau
There are certain rules and maxims that are spoken countless times in countless boxing gyms across the country. At the very top is some sage advice that warns, don't box with a boxer and don't bang with a banger. Jason Litzau did not heed that advice and he ended up looking up at the ring lights. As a result prospective law student Jose Andres Hernandez administered some street justice to the previously undefeated Litzau and scored an electrifying, come from behind eighth round knockout. The hard-hitting featherweight from Round Lake, Illinois via Ciudad Juarez, Mexico tagged his opponent with a wicked right hand in the first round to score the first knockdown of the fight. However, Hernandez dined on leather for most of the evening against the quick moving and flashy boxer puncher until Litzau elected to trade shots late in the fight and was counted out by referee Frank Santore Jr. at 2:52 of the 8th round.
