Too bad you don't have cartoon network these days. I remember watching casually over at my friend's house a few years back. I remember this pet bird. Tweety. Yep, that was his name. He seemed to have a lot of trouble with some gangster cat wanting to get into the cage. If I'm not mistaken, I think his name was Sylvester.
Those Looney cartoons are rather funny actually. You know, Bugs Bunny and so on. Tweety seems to be the one least harmful of the lot. I guess the creators wanted him to be as sweet as possible. Much of the reason to appeal to a younger audience.
He seems to gain even more sympathy as he speaks with a typical child- mispronounciation all the time. Yep, it sure almost makes me weep.
