    Barack Obama's Word Games
The Fifth Column Frank Salvato, Managing Editor
Much is being made of Barack Obama’s oratory skills. True, he is quite good when it comes to captivating a crowd of sycophants and this includes the lemmings in the mainstream media. But if words matter, as Obama (and surreptitiously Duval Patrick) claims they do, then we must acknowledge that in this case words do make the man, in this case Mr. Obama must be judged in his words and in the deeds that back-up those words.

Ironically, I agree with Mr. Obama when he says that words matter...In a society that has grown so delinquent in teaching its populace critical thinking skills, words – and the choice of words – have become the upper-tier chess pieces in the tactical game of attaining and holding on to power. Of course, this is nothing new.

    Israel's Endless Conflict
    World Lance Fairchok, Featured Writer
Eight young men, students, teenagers, gunned down by another young man acting out a virtue his religious orthodoxy drilled into his head since childhood. The soothing platitudes of peace and diplomacy are once again shown false. The truth so plain and so horrific even the most addled multi-cultural utopian surely knows in their heart of hearts, there can be no peace where a Jew faces Islam. There can be no peace even when Israel retreats and retreats again, when she caves into international pressure and sacrifices her security; even when she, in good faith, forces Jewish settlers from lands where Palestinians never lived to satisfy a peace agreement that had little hope of success. After the TV cameras were gone and all the fixtures removed and resold in Egypt, the land lies fallow and abandoned. All the handshakes, pieces of paper and sincere promises mean nothing. All we have to do is listen to the Palestinians own words. All we have to do is listen to the sermons preached in mosques worldwide. All we have to do open our eyes.

Hillary: Hoist with Her Own Petard
    Politics A.J. DiCintio, Featured Writer
You won’t get it from too clever by half talking heads and “experts,” but the only sensible speculation about Hillary Clinton’s presidential chances argues that the bombs Mrs. Clinton has employed in her campaign will blow up in her face.

    Mortgages In Name Only
Government Henry Mark Holzer, Featured Writer
Recent months have seen both sides of the federal aisle, and their candidates for the presidency, trying to outdo each other in providing relief for the “victims” of “predatory” lending practices by banks and other lenders. We’ll put aside for the time being the several fascinating issues that arise from the tulip craze real estate buying binge of the past several years...

Obama & Islam: The Third Rail in American Politics
    The Fifth Column Pamela Geller
I am not a racist. Tough to prove a negative. But I refuse to dhimmi down and Shut up. Too much is wrong. Obama's narrative is being altered, enhanced and manipulated to whitewash troubling facts. The web is being scrubbed of Obama's ties to Islam. But America will know the truth even if the mainstream media refuses to touch the third rail. The media is already in full spin mode. The racist charge is fallacious - Islam is not a race, but why split hairs, right?

Rep. Steve King: Vilified for Telling the Truth
    Culture War Sher Zieve
In 2005, I wrote the article Will Humans “PC” Themselves out of Existence? Tragically – but predictably – today the answer appears to be an unambiguous and resounding “Yes!” The purveyors and proponents of “political correctness” have now reached the apex of their inherent goal: that of – once and for all – shutting down the truth.

    Changing the Rules of War
    Terrorism Mark Silverberg, Featured Writer
Despite thousands of missiles being fired at Israeli cities, towns and villages, the European Union recently condemned Israel's "disproportionate use of force" and issued a communiqué urging Israel to "refrain from all activities that endanger civilians" in Gaza on the grounds that "such activities are contrary to international law.”

  • Quote of the Day & This Day in US History

"Roses have thorns, and silver fountains mud; Clouds and eclipses stain both moon and sun, And loathsome canker lies in sweetest bud. All men make faults." -- William Shakespeare

1836 - Less than a week after the disastrous defeat of Texas rebels at the Alamo, the newly commissioned Texan General Sam Houston begins a series of strategic retreats to buy time to train his ill-prepared army.

1865 - In a desperate measure, the Confederate States of America reluctantly approve the use of black troops as the main Rebel armies face long odds against much larger Union armies at this late stage of the war.

1868 - For the first time in US history, the impeachment trial of an American president gets underway in the US Senate. President Andrew Johnson, reviled by the Republican-dominated Congress for his views on Reconstruction, stood accused of having violated the controversial Tenure of Office Act, passed by Congress over his veto in 1867.

1942 - The Quartermaster Corps of the United States Army begins training dogs for the newly established War Dog Program, or "K-9 Corps." Well over a million dogs served on both sides during World War I, carrying messages along the complex network of trenches and providing some measure of psychological comfort to the soldiers.
